How Local Businesses Can Benefit from the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale
September 25, 2024
Every year, Cody hosts a unique event that brings both prestige and opportunity to our local businesses: the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale (BBAS). The 43rd edition of this event, which recently concluded, was a record-breaking success, with over $1.45 million in art sales.
While the numbers are impressive, the real value for our community goes beyond art—it lies in the potential for Cody's businesses to capitalize on the influx of visitors drawn to this event.
Who Goes to the Buffalo Bill Art Show & Sale?
Katelyn Parker, the show’s director, recently spoke at a Cody Club meeting and emphasized the type of clientele the BBAS attracts: affluent individuals, predominantly over the age of 50, with a strong passion for the American West.
While around half of the patrons live in the Cody area at least part-time, many of them fly in just for the week.
These visitors are not only interested in art—they're seeking an authentic western experience. This creates a perfect opportunity for local businesses to extend that experience beyond the art galleries and auction tent.
How BBAS Compares to Other Shows
Parker highlighted that the BBAS competes with major western art markets like Indianapolis, Reno, and San Antonio, yet our show continues to thrive due to the individualized hospitality and the quality of the western art we present. This speaks volumes about Cody's ability to host top-tier events while maintaining a personalized touch that sets us apart.
How to Connect Your Business with BBAS
For local businesses, tapping into this audience can be both straightforward and rewarding. Whether you own a restaurant, hotel, retail store, or offer western experiences, you have the chance to attract this high-value group. Here are a few ways to get involved:
- Tailored Experiences: Offer exclusive packages, themed menus, or guided tours that reflect the western spirit. Visitors coming for the art show are likely looking to immerse themselves in local culture.
- Strategic Partnerships: Consider collaborating with BBAS or other local events. Your business could offer discounts to show attendees or sponsor a portion of the event, getting your name in front of this affluent audience.
- Enhanced Marketing: Ensure that your marketing during BBAS week aligns with the western theme. Emphasizing the authenticity of your offerings can attract these patrons seeking a true western experience. "Make sure to invite these patrons in, whether it be with a special event or just a welcome sign in your window," Parker says.
- Event Participation: Hosting special events or promotions during BBAS week can draw traffic. For example, themed dinners, live music, or art-inspired experiences can be a way to get visitors into your establishment. Make sure to connect with the Chamber well in advance so we can help promote your event to the patrons.
- Sponsorships and Volunteering: BBAS has numerous opportunities for businesses to sponsor or advertise and reach its patrons that way. Contact the Chamber if you are interested in a sponsorship. We also need many volunteers to produce the show, and volunteering for even just a few hours can help you better understand the event and make connections.
Community Pride and Business Opportunity
BBAS isn't just a point of pride for Cody; it's an event that provides a tremendous business opportunity. With the right approach, Cody's businesses can share in the success, drawing customers, boosting sales, and fostering long-term relationships with these dedicated art enthusiasts.
