CODY COUNTRY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Cody Country Chamber of Commerce is seeking an Executive Director to lead the daily operations of the Chamber office.  Successful candidate must have an extensive understanding of the travel and tourism industry and of Chamber of Commerce operations.  Key areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: providing overall leadership to the organization, preparation and adherence to the annual operating budget, marketing, fundraising, event planning, membership/community relations, program development and strategic direction.  The Executive Director manages the staff in accordance with the laws governing the organization, serves as liaison with local government and various community organizations, advocates for local businesses, and is proactively involved with membership sales.  This is a very visible position and requires excellent hands-on skills with the public.  Starting salary will depend on experience.  The Executive Director reports to a board of directors which is comprised of business people from the Cody community.

Job Description for Executive Director:

OVERVIEW
 
The Executive Director of the Cody Country Chamber of Commerce shall be the chief administrative head of the Chamber of Commerce.  The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation and management of the Chamber of Commerce and all of its committees, councils, task forces, bureaus, departments, special committees, and other chamber entities.  The Executive Director is responsible for the planning and implementation of all programs and services as set forth and adopted by the Board of Directors or its committees.  The Executive Director is supervised by the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and otherwise employed under the guidelines set forth in the Chamber Policies and Procedures Manual.  This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities and duties and the Executive Director may be required to perform other functions as directed by the Board of Directors.
 
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY AND TASKS
 
Board of Directors
Serves as secretary and parliamentarian to the Board.
Responsible for the preparation of Agendas and the Minutes of the Board.
Is a non-voting member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and all committees, councils, task forces, bureaus, departments, special committees, and other Chamber entities.
Serves as advisor to the President and Board on matters of policy, organizational and management matters and long-range development.
Annually assists the Nomination Committee in selecting new Board members and preparing the required notification of the membership and, if necessary, election ballots.
Annually schedules the Board of Directors and Staff retreat to address matters of policy, organizational and management matters and long-range development .

Budget
Oversees the preparation of the annual operating budget for the Chamber and all related entities to be presented to Board of Directors for approval.
Is responsible for all expenditures within approved budget allocations and shall regularly report to the Board of Directors on the status of the finances and the budget.
Makes recommendations to the Board on any equipment or capital purchases that are necessary to create and maintain a productive work environment.

Membership
Is responsible for formulating and implementing the Membership Development Program.
Should strive to spend a much time as possible “on the street” visiting one-on-one with Chamber members and non-members alike.
Develops and monitors the membership visitation follow up system to assure that all follow up is accomplished within a reasonable time of the original visit.
Is responsible for the development of the Annual Membership Survey and other surveys as determined necessary, securing a viable response rate and tabulating the results.

Organizational
Is responsible for the development and administration of the Program of Work and the various Plan of Actions of the Chamber Committees.
Maintains and implements the policies and procedures of the Chamber as such policies are approved by the Board.
Maintains an accessible and thorough filing system that includes any and all necessary documentation to adequately support the historic activities of the Chamber.
Insure that the Chamber is in compliance with all laws governing the Chamber organization.

Staff
Is responsible for employing, training, and supervising all Chamber staff, and provide counsel to the Board regarding each employee’s job description, work performance and salary review.
Strives to create and maintain a productive work environment that encourages high productivity and morale among employees.
Annually schedules a Staff Retreat in order to more efficiently allocate the time and maximize the utilization of the qualifications and skills of the various staff members to create and maintain a more productive work environment.

Communications 
Is the administrative spokesman and representative of the Chamber in instances where staff representation is appropriate and is the chief spokesman in matters relating to the news media and public affairs on those issues where the Board has provided direction.
Is the chief liaison for the following Chamber entities: the Board of Directors, the Executive Committee, the Government Affairs/ National Parks Committee, Cody Marketing Council and the Stampede Board.
Serves as the community liaison representing the Chamber, communicates the various objectives and activities of the Chamber, listens to the community to ascertain the attitude of the community toward the Chamber and activities, and report the findings to the Board.
Is the chief liaison for the following non-Chamber entities:  the federal, state, county and city governments; the Park County Travel Council, Forward Cody,  the Yellowstone Regional Airport, the Yellowstone Development District, Friends of the All American Beartooth Highway and any organization for which the Chamber has membership.
Will diplomatically handle the most significant complaints to the Chamber whether about the Chamber or a local business and, whenever possible, complaints shall be mediated to the extent possible.
Will monitor web page, make changes as needed to adequately serve the members who link to the Chamber Web Page and manage the e-mail system.
Will write and submit a column to the twice monthly Chamber Newsletter.

Other
Shall actively be involved in continuing education programs that are designed to improve the effectiveness of the Executive Director.
Is responsible for any additional projects as assigned by the Board of Directors.
All Chamber property shall be delivered to the Chamber in good condition at the end of employment.
